Do you have what it takes to be the first ever TVET Youth Champion?

Well, the TVET Council (TVETC) Barbados is inviting young persons age 18 – 24, who are either enrolled or have graduated from local public or private TVET institutions, to nominate themselves for the chance to attend the first ever International TVET Youth Forum taking place October 14-15th in the United Arab Emirates during WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017.

The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, March 22, 2017. Nominations can be made by submitting a cover letter and curriculum vitae at website www.worldskillsbarbados.org.bb/Apply. The cover letter must briefly explain the nominee’s perspective on at least two or three topics which include Skills Development, Education and Training, Employment, Innovation, Industry 4.0, Entrepreneurship, Green Economy, Global Citizenship, Happiness and Tolerance.

Education and training institutions, whether public or private, are also being invited to nominate two young persons (n.b. one male and one female) who are enrolled in TVET programmes to participate in this exciting opportunity.

Up to 300 young people from countries around the world, of which 150 will represent WorldSkills member countries including Barbados, are expected to gather in Abu Dhabi to discuss the future of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Among other things, they will participate in several think tanks on topics ranging from Innovation, Industry 4.0, Entrepreneurship, Green Economy and Global Citizenship to Happiness and Tolerance.

WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 is the 44th biennial WorldSkills Competition, a global ‘skills Olympics’ which showcases young, skilled professionals who compete to be the best among the approximately 75-member countries represented at the unique event. The WorldSkills Competition, which will feature 45 skill areas ranging from the traditional trades to multi-skilled technology careers in the industry and service sectors, will take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre on October 14th – 19th.
