Barbados Team Off To Worldskills Abu Dhabi

The Barbados team going to compete in the 44th international WorldSkills Competition in Abu Dhabi left the island yesterday Monday, October 9.

The event will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from October 15 to 18.

The competitors who travelled on Monday were Takiya Jordan, Roshida Griffith and Tinisha Hall. They will respectively represent Barbados in the Hairdressing, Fashion Technology and Cooking categories of the world’s biggest vocational skills competition.

Akeil Craig-Browne, who travelled separately from Canada to meet the team in transit in London, will represent Barbados in the Automobile Technology category.

Officials from the TVET Council accompanied the competitors. They were Team Leader, Wendy McClean; Official Delegate, Henderson Eastmond and Official Observer, Millicent Small. Technical Delegate Dario Walcott departed for Abu Dhabi today Friday, October 6.

On Saturday October 14, the Barbados team will parade with approximately 70 other countries during the Opening Ceremony. The closing ceremony will be on Thursday, October 19. Both events will be livestreamed on www.worldskills.org and www.worldskilssabudhabi2017.com
